E. S. & D. Turbines have been made in New Brunswick, Canada by Paul Cunningham since 1980. They will operate on heads from 4 to 400 feet, with flows of 5 to 300 gallons per minute. The E. S. & D. Turbine uses a wheel called a "turgo", which is made of high strength rugged bronze. The housing for the machine is made of cast aluminum. Nozzles vary in size from 3/16" to 1". Up to four nozzles can be mounted on one unit, allowing high flows. Three nozzle sizes are supplied per installed nozzle.
Power can be generated at 12, 24, or higher voltages up to 120 volts DC. This model employs a brushless permanent magnet alternator designed specifically for this application by E S & D. This breakthrough technology contributes to increased output because of its higher efficiency. Because no brushes are used, maintenance is minimal. As the minimum head at which this machine will produce power is only four feet, this model is an excellent choice for very low head applications.
Energy Systems and Design Turbines are also available with 100 and 200 volt 3-phase rewound Ford alternators. Call us for more information on this.
The following chart gives output figures in watts. Actual output delivered to the batteries may be somewhat less than shown due to wire loss and other factors. Higher outputs than these can be produced from custom ordered machines.
There are many factors to consider when determining the output of these turbines. Contact us for more information.
