YOUR SOLAR ELECTRIC HOME-
HOW TO TURN YOUR DREAM INTO REALITY

On Saturday, November 19, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, Sierra Solar Systems will be hosting an all-day workshop on the subject of designing and installing a solar electric power system for your home. The subject matter will be comprehensive, yet basic enough for the novice to follow.

We'll be covering everything that you'll need, including: basic principles of operation, solar siting, system sizing calculations, equipment selection, safety concerns, energy efficiency, refrigeration, water pumping, lighting, system maintenance, and installation. Small hydropower and wind applications will also be covered.

The workshop will be taught by Jonathan Hill of Sierra Solar Systems, and John Berdner, president of SMA America. Jonathan has over 25 years experience in solar electric system design and sales, as well as a degree in mechanical engineering. John has over 25 years of experience in the design and installation of PV power systems. He has worked in almost every aspect of the PV market including module manufacturing, system integration, utility scale PV research , and balance-of-system equipment design and manufacturing. Also instructing will be Nick Lucchese, a licensed contractorand experienced photovoltaic systems installer who will address your concerns about system installation. Nick is one of the first installers in the nation to be certified by NABCEP (North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners)

The program will be broken down into two parts. Part one will consist of a classroom session with plenty of time for questions on your own specific applications or problems. Part two will be a visit to a working state-of-the-art solar home nearby. The home features passive solar heating and cooling design, as well as a stand-alone photovoltaic power system which is also connected to the PG&E power grid and utilizes "time of use metering". It is the first home in the area to sell its excess power to the utility. Domestic hot water as well as a hot tub are heated with solar collectors.

Cost for the workshop will be $80.00, including a copy of the new book, Power with Nature, by Rex A. Ewing, as well as other course materials. There will be a $25 discount for couples (only one book per couple). Please register early, as space is limited and we often sell out. Please add $5 per person for optional lunch (sandwich, chips and soft drink). Call us to select your sandwich type.

Note: This workshop will be repeated next May for those who cannot make it in November.

Please register early by calling (800)735-6790, or (530) 273-6754 locally.
